We wish to share the impressive news that, chosen from a competitive field of applicants, Michelle Heaton is the selected recipient of the inaugural International Boys Schools Coalition Research Award. The award letter to Michelle from IBSC executive director David Armstrong appears below with related details about Michelle's research work and her selection.

Michelle will be recognized in the upcoming annual IBSC conference that takes place this year in Toronto. We wish Michelle the very best in her research and Fenn will continue to support her efforts with admiration and enthusiasm.

Greetings Michelle:

It is with great pleasure that I write to share that you are the winner of the inaugural IBSC Action Research Award for 2016.  As your work was reviewed and considered, it was noted that you completed your action research project to the highest standard, and your enthusiasm and valuable contribution to the IBSC action research community was exceptional. Your focus on sixth-grade boys and the introduction of a service learning component into a science-based unit on climate change lead to the boys’ growth in acting as change makers and their increased comprehension of course content. The research demonstrated the service learning component gave the boys a personal connection to place and served as a springboard for them to develop their understanding and appreciation of the impact of climate change on a global scale. The success of your work is encapsulated in the reflection provided by one of the boys participating in your research.

He explained, “I think that being a global citizen means that you are a person that knows about the world, cares for the world, and makes actions to make this world a better place.”

We appreciate your dedication and commitment to the Action Research program as part of the 2015-16 cohort.  In recognition of your exemplary efforts, we’d like to award you with a certificate at the upcoming conference.

With Best Regards,

David Armstrong
