In the Lower and Middle Schools at Fenn, one of the top primary and middle schools for boys in Massachusetts, students participate in chorus and band. Boys learn to use their voices as an instrument, developing strong vocal technique and singing in harmony. In band, they enhance their rhythm skills with a musical instrument of their choice. They also develop music reading skills during these years.
Upper School students experience the challenges and rewards of a cappella singing. Students who select Rhythm Ensemble classes form a small guitar- and percussion-based band and tackle rock, blues, and jazz pieces.
Fenn also has an extensive co-curricular music program. Depending on their grade, boys may join the Fenn Marching or Jazz Bands or ensemble groups with non-traditional band instruments. Students may also participate in the Treble Chorus, modeled after an English boys' choir. Eighth and ninth grade students can audition for the Fenn-Nashoba Brooks Musical. All band members are eligible for private lessons with skilled professional musicians.
