Drama teacher grades 4-9

The Fenn School seeks candidates for a full-time drama position in a well-established grade 4 -9 drama program. Fenn’s theater program offers an extensive performance schedule (averages twenty curricular productions annually) and occurs in a state-of-the-art performing arts venue.

Successful candidates will demonstrate

  • commitment to theater education and developing boys' acting skills,
  • strong directing skills (knowledge of choreography is a plus),
  • basic understanding of theatrical sound and light (AV) systems,
  • ability to provide guidance and support to Fenn’s theater tech coordinator,
  • versatility and interest in many genres of theater (including improvisation and musical theater),
  • an understanding of age- and audience-appropriate play selections,
  • organizational skills to supervise Fenn’s sequential drama curriculum,
  • interpersonal and communication skills necessary to manage parent and faculty volunteers and to foster relationships with outside contractors (set builders, costumers, and set painters),
  • as well as the vision, creativity, innovation, and initiative necessary to advance this comprehensive theatre program.

The position requires advising and “schoolhouse” supervising responsibilities as well as regular attendance at required faculty and department meetings.                   

The successful candidate will be a proactive and collaborative individual who can support the mission of the school and work well with students, parents, faculty and staff. Specific skills, in addition to those mentioned above, include strong written and verbal communication skills, solid classroom management skills and the ability to effectively manage the organizational requirements of the position.
