Director of Alumni Relations and Alumni Giving 


The Fenn School seeks an experienced professional for the position of Director of Alumni Relations and Alumni Giving. This individual, reporting directly to the Director of Advancement, will assume responsibility for engaging Fenn’s alumni through regular communication, special events, and individual meetings; recruiting, training, and supporting alumni volunteers; soliciting alumni for annual gifts, in cooperation with the Director of Annual Fund and Leadership Giving; and laying the foundation for leadership and legacy gifts from Fenn’s growing alumni base. This is a full-time, twelve-month position.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, Train, and Support Alumni Volunteers
    • Provide strategic direction and leadership to Fenn’s network of alumni and alumni volunteers.
    • Serve as liaison to the Alumni Council and its leadership, providing the materials and support necessary to enable the council and related committees to advance their work.
    • Recruit, train, and support alumni volunteers in each class through the Class Senator program. Class Senators help to keep their classmates connected with the school, facilitate class communications, and solicit annual philanthropic support.
    • Recruit, train, and support reunion volunteers and manage giving for reunion classes. Reunion volunteers help to plan the reunion program, drive attendance at reunion, and solicit reunion year giving.
       
  • Provide Strategic Direction and Leadership to Alumni Programs and Events
    • In coordination with the Alumni Council and the Alumni Services Committee, and with the help of the Events Coordinator, plan and manage Fenn’s signature alumni events:
      • Homecoming/Reunion Weekend in the fall, including the annual Alumni Dinner.
      • Founder’s Night in the spring, a signature event that brings together Boston area alumni, parents of alumni, and former faculty and staff.
    • Organize regional events and visits to engage alumni outside the Boston area, particularly alumni in New York, California, Florida, and other regions where Fenn is well represented.
    • Provide support to the Alumni Services Committee and Events Coordinator as needed in planning additional alumni engagement events, including virtual events.
       
  • Work with Director of Annual Fund and Leadership Giving to Solicit Alumni Support
    • Maintain a portfolio of alumni prospects and advance these relationships through individual visits and targeted outreach.
    • Work to increase alumni participation in the Annual Fund by setting clear goals, managing the Alumni Annual Fund Committee, organizing phonathons and direct mail appeals, building Fenn’s young alumni giving program, and producing regular reports.
       
  • Implement a Comprehensive Communications Plan for Alumni to Include:
    • Fenn’s Alumni e-Newsletter, currently distributed three times per year.
    • Robust and representative Class Notes for publication in the Fenn magazine.
    • Updated alumni web pages and timely, lively social media presence.
    • Fenn’s virtual networking platform for alumni, Fenn Connect.
    • Other communications as appropriate.
       
  • Other Duties
    • Represent the Advancement Office at fundraising and community events, including occasional night and weekend work.
    • Pursue appropriate professional development opportunities.
    • Maintain standards of professional competence, including adherence to a professional code of ethical conduct and a high level of confidentiality.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of three years of experience in alumni relations, fundraising, or related field
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and time management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to travel as needed, primarily within the Boston area but also more widely
  • Experience with volunteer management and Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
