Two students earned Honorable Mentions. Pranav Tadikonda, a sixth grader from Burlington, presented “Stupid in School” by Brian Reagen. Pranav, whose recitation elicited appreciative laughter from the audience, showed “impeccable comic timing” and unflagging energy, Wilkins noted.

Also honored was James Jennings, an eighth grader from Belmont, who read Robert Frost’s “Mending Wall,” with “understanding and emotion,” Hardy said, adding that the speaking contest was “heartening to someone who prizes the written and spoken word in this increasingly technological world.”

Other boys who made the finals of the contest were ninth grader Gil Roddy; eighth graders Duncan Norton and Gabriel Parlin; seventh graders Neel Taneja, Max Gomez, Johnny Lamont, and Parker Zimmerman; and sixth grader Jake Goorno.
