A towering event tent rose up on the athletic fields bordering Monument Street the week of June 7th as a sure sign that Fenn's 2021 graduation festivities were returning to campus after virtual celebrations imposed by COVID last year. On Wednesday, June 9, and Friday, June 11, 67 eighth and ninth grade Fenn students joined the ranks of Fenn's 4,200+ alumni in two separate graduation ceremonies. Attendance may have been capped, and graduates and guests required to follow COVID protocols to help ensure a safe gathering, but a familiar air of celebration, pomp and circumstance, and Blue-and-Gold pride marked the 92nd commencement exercises much like generations before them. The bell atop Ward Hall signaled the start of the graduation day processionals, headmaster reflections on the unique contributions and promising futures of each graduate were again a highlight along with student prizes and farewell remarks from student leaders, and musical accompaniment that included an apt rendition of Green Day's "Time of Your Life" by faculty members Ben Smith '85 and John Fitzsimmons linked it all together beautifully. Visit www.fenn.org/graduation2021 to view both commencement festivities and the Prize Day program that preceded them on June 8, and keep watch for expanded graduation coverage in the next FENN magazine. Congratulations to our newest alumni from the classes of 2020 and 2021!
71st Fenn Field Day and the Alumni Field Day Challenge: Spirited Events for the Blue and Gold Neither a hot day nor a chance of rain stayed Fenn boys from their appointed rounds at Field Day on June 4. The much anticipated annual tradition, which is back after a missed year when the school had to go to virtual learning for last spring, "went great," said Chris Ryan '10, assistant athletic director and science faculty member. He and Athletic Director Bob Starensier organized the day, combining traditional and new events. Though the tug of war and relay race had to be scrapped this year in the name of Covid compliance, the "Fenn's Fastest Man" race was held to great excitement, with the title going to eighth grader David Peirce.
