| Alumnus in the Spotlight: Andy Russell '96 Once a "LEGO-obsessed seven-year-old," Andy Russell '96 is making digital toys and tools for kids Andy Russell '96 may not be able to tell you what he had for breakfast yesterday, he says, but he can recall, in vivid detail, every Fenn production he was in and every presentation he made more than 25 years ago. They include The Ransom of Reed Chief in sixth grade, The Prince and the Pauper in seventh, Oklahoma in eighth, and Crazy for You in ninth. He performed "The Crocodile Dentist" for the W.W.F. Public Speaking Contest in sixth grade, a piece from Inherit the Wind in seventh, and Robert F. Kennedy's speech on the death of Martin Luther King Jr. in eighth. In fact, Andy's memory is so sharp for all things Fenn that he can still feel the pain of the bones he broke his senior year playing hockey and football. ("'Twas rough," he says.) And he can easily conjure the scene of "Ms. Guzzi grabbing me by the collar in sixth grade to get me to stop scooting by" and the image of "Mr. Albright as Knute Rockne in a corduroy suit." You can visit fenn.org/greenplanning to read the goals, strategies, and plans for implementation, and to ask questions or offer feedback. | | | | Celebrating AAPI Month As Fenn continues to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, students and faculty were honored to welcome Anjali Nath to campus for a special assembly. One of the most dynamic artists among a new generation of Kathak soloists, Anjali spent time educating the school about the cultural significance of traditional Kathak dance and storytelling and challenging students, faculty, and staff to learn specific rhythm patterns and hand gestures. Judging by the photos shared here, everyone made a wonderful effort to absorb her teachings and guidance and to demonstrate an appreciation for it through their movements and poses. | | | | Spring Sports Entertain As the School nears the end of the spring sports season, we have seen some excellent performances by Varsity Baseball, Lacrosse, Tennis, and Track and Field teams! Our Middle School teams also have worked extremely hard this season and recently had the chance to take on other schools. The Middle School Baseball Team in particular scored a huge win recently on the road against Dedham Country Day, thanks to some stellar pitching! | | | | Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day: The Tradition Returns! Earlier this May, campus was teeming with proud grandparents and special friends as Fenn celebrated an occasion that families had not been able to enjoy since the spring of 2019. It was wonderful to share our campus and highlights of the Fenn experience with these special adults in the lives of our students. As Derek Boonisar said in our Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day Assembly featuring student performances and remarks, all of the students with visitors were clearly walking a bit taller with pride (and some even in Fenn dress code to impress their loved ones). | | | | Latin Class with a Twist! Who knew Latin class would need to take education to the floor of the New Gym?! Here, students were challenged to construct Roman provincial cities. Guided in this task by research they had completed on the eight constructions that each city required, including an amphitheater, theater, aqueduct, forum, houses, temple, streets, and walls, building commenced! Excellent creativity and teamwork were on display as structures of various shapes and sizes dotted the landscape of the gym. | | | | April 7 marked the return of Founder's Night, a community celebration of the life and legacy of the School's visionary founder, Roger Fenn. More than 120 alumni, parents of alumni, and former and long-time faculty gathered at the Liberty Hotel in Boston to reconnect after several years apart and to share in the joy that is so unique to our School. A courageous seventh grade student also treated guests to a special presentation, reciting his winning W.W. Fenn performance of Joseph Arnone's "Stand Up." It was wonderful to see so many people join us last month. We look forward to even greater attendance next Spring! | | | | Save the Dates: Reunion and Homecoming Weekend 2022! Mark your calendar and save the date for Reunion and Homecoming Weekend, September 30 to October 1, 2022. We invite all alumni back to campus on Friday, September 30 to help those with graduating years ending in 2 or 7 celebrate their milestone achievement, especially the class of 1972 in their 50th reunion year! Pictured here are class members James Owens, John Sweeney, Brad Bailey, Andy Falvey, John Reichenbach, Drew Thwaits, and Dan Holland, along with their spouses at a Bruins Game this past April. Homecoming follows Reunion on Saturday, October 1, with a Fenn vs. Fay Football game, barbeque lunch, live music, games and an alumni beer garden. | | | | Young Alumni BBQ Alumni classes 2016 – 2022 are invited to a BBQ on Wednesday, June 15 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Enjoy this chance to reconnect with classmates, see some of your former Fenn teachers, play in the gym and on the turf, and re-visit your old advisor classroom! | | | Alumni Field Day Challenge | | | Fenn's Field Day returns in full force this spring, including the famous relay races! As students take to competition and pass on the baton, it's your turn to do the same. Starting on Thursday, June 2, you will have 36 hours to rally for Fenn's Alumni Field Day Giving Challenge and unlock up to $20,000 in challenge funds from two anonymous donors! Make your gift in support of Fenn's Annual Fund, and then "pass the baton" by encouraging your classmates to do the same. Our goal of 120 new alumni donors during the challenge will help ensure that Fenn receives the full $20,000 in challenge funds. In addition, the alumni team with the greatest participation will assist the students on Team Blue or Team Gold kick off Field Day with a 10 point lead! Fenn's Alumni Field Day Challenge ends at noon on Friday, June 3. Check back throughout the 36 hours to see how your team is doing, how close Fenn is to receiving the additional $20,000 in support, and which student team will start Monday Morning with a Field Day boost! Need another incentive to join the challenge? Anyone that makes a gift of $36 or more will receive a pair of sweet new "Sua Sponte" socks (while supplies last)! | | | Send Us Your Favorite Moments from Your D.C. and Merrowvista Trips!
