Fenn Alumnus Ian Moore '17 was selected to represent the United States men's junior hockey team for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Alberta. The IIHF World Juniors are taking place from August 9-20.
The ten team tournament was divided into two groups of five. The United States are the reigning champs and were favorites to come out as the top seed in Group B. Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Sweden filled out the rest of the group. In the four games during group play, the US went 4-0 claiming the top seed in their group, outsourcing their opponents 22-4.
In the World Junior Quarterfinals, the United States found themselves on the ropes against a determined and energetic Czech Republic squad. The Czechs held on for a 4-2 upset win over the reigning world junior champs to move on to the semifinals.
As a standout hockey player at Fenn, St. Mark's School, and now entering his second year playing for Harvard University, Moore played extremely well on defense for the red, white, and blue despite the team's early exit. He tallied one assist in the five games played with a plus/minus of +1.
Moore, along with fellow Crimson teammate Mathew Coronato who joined him on Team USA, look to take the experience of international play into a successful sophomore season for Harvard this winter.
