Student Endowment Funds

The Acorn Fund

Established anonymously in November 2015 by the family foundation of an alumnus, this fund supports tuition assistance for Fenn students who demonstrate financial need. 

Read E. Albright Fenn Scholarship Fund

Established in July 2011 with gifts from family and friends in memory of Read Albright. Income from the fund supports need-based financial aid for under-represented students of color. 

Walter W. Birge Service Award

Established in June 1994 by Barry and MaryAnn Rosen, parents of Jonathan E. Rosen ’94. This fund honors Walter Birge, Fenn’s fourth headmaster, and its income supports a graduation prize for philanthropy and support of the Fenn community. 

Mark W. Biscoe H'95 & Jane E. Biscoe Scholarship Fund

Established in May 2021 by Fenn's Alumni Council, family, friends, and former students in memory of Mark Biscoe and in honor of Jane Biscoe. This fund recognizes the countless ways in which Mark and Jane embraced each member of the Fenn community as an individual and held that person close to their hearts across so many decades.

Boys at the Heart Teacher Salary Fund

Established in 2005 as part of the Boys at the Heart campaign, income from this fund supports Fenn's greatest single budgetary expense--faculty salaries and benefits. The fund helps Fenn attract and retain inspiring teachers who understand boys. 

Anne F. Brooke & Peter A. Brooke Scholarship Fund

Established in 2017 by their son, John F. Brooke '77, to honor his parents and their long and close association with The Fenn School. Income from this fund supports accessibility and affordability scholarships to enroll at Fenn worthy and talented boys with financial need to enrich their education and that of all Fenn boys. 

 Ruth M. Connolly Scholarship Fund

Established in April 1998 by Dick and Ann Marie Connolly, parents of Richard F. Connolly III ’98, Ryan E. Connolly ’99, and Kevin S. Connolly ’03, with gifts from family and friends. The fund honors the memory Mr. Connolly’s mother, and income generated by the fund supports scholarships for Fenn students in need of financial assistance. 

 Diversity Initiative Endowment Fund

Established anonymously in 2011 in a challenge to the Fenn community to support financial aid for boys from under-represented ethnicities. Income generated by the fund provides tuition assistance for students of Latino and Black/African American heritage.  

Financial Aid Endowment Fund

Established in 2005, this general scholarship fund generates income to support the School's yearly financial aid budget to allow families of limited financial means to send their sons to Fenn. 

Dr. Samuel C. Fleming Memorial Fund

Established by the Class of 1965 at the time of their 25th reunion in 1990 in memory of their classmate Sam Fleming. Income from the fund supports the annual Fleming Prize awarded at Fenn’s graduation. 

Manton Challenge Financial Aid Endowment Fund

Established in 2015 by The Manton Foundation as a challenge to the Fenn community. Income generated by this fund supports need-based financial aid for Fenn students. 

Rosse Family Scholarship Fund

Established in October 1998 by Tom and Bonnie Rosse, parents of Jonathon J. Rosse ’04 and grandparents of Evan T. Rosse ’03 and Kyle B. Rosse ’05. This fund provides income to provide tuition assistance for a minority student who demonstrates financial need, academic stability, and soundness of character. 

Lucian Johnson Rogers '06 Scholarship Fund

The Lucian (Luke) Johnson Rogers '06 Scholarship Fund was established in 2020 by Laura Johnson and Arthur "Tooey" Rogers in loving memory of their son. The income from this permanently restricted endowment fund will help support boys who demonstrate Luke's bright smile and enthusiasm for life, and who might not have the opportunity to attend Fenn without financial assistance. 

Dawson Atlee Rutter III '09 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2018 by his father, Dawson A. Rutter, Jr., in loving memory of his son. Income from this fund provides scholarships to qualified boys who require tuition assistance to enroll at Fenn, with a preference for students who have a demonstrated love for the arts. 

Sergei “Jay” Samoylenko Scholarship Fund

Established in July 2011 with gifts from family and friends in memory of Jay Samoylenko. Income from the fund supports need-based financial aid for under-represented students of color.  

Bob and Kathy Starensier Scholarship Fund

Established in 2023 upon the occasion of Bob “Star” Starensier’s retirement after 41 years of teaching, coaching, and advising at The Fenn School, this endowed scholarship fund honors both Bob and Kathy Starensier, two extraordinary educators who embody all that is best about the School. Through the generosity of alumni, parents, colleagues, family, and friends, this fund celebrates Kathy and Bob’s devotion and commitment to Fenn boys. Income from the fund supports partial financial aid grants for students with demonstrated need, whose families need extra help to cover the full tuition.

Robert W. Swift Sports Memorial Fund

Established in November 2007 in memory of Robert W. Swift by his wife Priscilla Swift and their sons Jonathan “Deacon” Swift ’99 and Robert W. Swift IV ’00, as well as family and friends. Income from this fund supports the athletic program at Fenn. 

Ann S. Upchurch Scholarship Fund

Established in August 1997 by Katherine Upchurch Takvorian and Ronald W. Takvorian, parents of Samuel Upchurch Tavorian ’99.  This fund honors the memory of Mrs. Takvorian’s mother, and its income supports Fenn students in need of financial aid. 

Jerry Ward & Lorraine Garnett Ward Scholarship Fund

Established in 2017 by the Nicholas Family with the hope that members of the Fenn community will join in honoring the enduring educational impact Jerry and Lorraine had on Fenn students across their 25-year tenure at the School. Its income funds accessibility and affordability scholarships to enroll at Fenn worthy and talented boys with financial need. 

Kevin P. White '93 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2016 by family and friends to honor and celebrate Kevin's life and love of Fenn. Income from this fund supports those students enrolled at Fenn who are from socio-economically, racially, or ethnically diverse backgrounds and in need of tuition assistance.
