Design Thinking and Curriculum Integration
Working with faculty to integrate lessons from traditional Fenn classes is another goal of the makerspace. This space allows faculty to bring their classes to a room that has equipment that is too specialized to duplicate in every classroom. It has space that is meant for doing hands-on projects and creating new things. By using the makerspace during academic classes teachers will be introducing all Fenn students to the experience of designing something new. It will hopefully spark an interest in some young men who haven’t had this opportunity before or didn’t realize they were so inclined. It is a flexible space and can be reconfigured to meet the needs of each class’ projects. Using design thinking students become problem-identifiers, tackling real world problems through the design process to engineer solutions that will be shared with a larger audience.
