Like so many schools, Fenn has worked hard to make classrooms and the campus safe for boys and their teachers. In every area, improvements such as these have resulted in unforeseen expenses:

Purchasing and maintaining our supplies of PPE, sanitizer, soap, paper towels and disinfectant. Purchased 200 student desks to replace seminar tables and lab benches to provide six feet of spacing between students Hired 10 adjunct faculty members in 2020 and 6 in 2021 to cover potential teacher absences and provide the additional supervision necessary to keep boys safe during recess, lunch, sports, and drop-off/pick-up.
Rented 12 tents with flooring in 2020 and purchased 8 of them in 2021 to provide outdoor teaching space during the fall Removed walls in the School House and reconfiguring Thompson Hall classrooms to create larger instruction spaces. Contracted with air quality specialists to evaluate all campus buildings and implement their recommendations to ensure optimal air exchange and circulation.
Installed six touch-less water fountains Acquired equipment for socially distant sports options such as archery, disc golf, and canoeing Created new signage to designate assigned entrances/ exits to all buildings and to direct traffic flow in hallways and stairwells
Adjusted the approach to our dining program to provide individually-packed lunches for every student, teacher, and staff member Offering a robust curriculum of summer professional development training to help teachers create units and lessons for a blended teaching and learning model should COVID-19 require Fenn to temporarily move away from an on-campus academic program

Estimates for enacting all these necessary precautions are expected to total at least $1,500,000.
