Full-time Visual Arts Teacher

The Fenn School seeks candidates for a full-time visual arts position. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with several areas of the visual arts including: ceramics; painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor); and drawing. The position includes teaching visual arts courses in grades four through seven, and offering a visual arts elective course in our Upper School to students in grades eight and nine. The teacher will also serve as an advisor and hold other duties such as managing Fenn’s art gallery, coaching sports or supervising a student activity. All members of the visual arts department also participate in preparing biannual student art shows on campus and for the annual Small Independent School Arts League (SISAL) show at a peer school.

A successful candidate will be a proactive and collaborative educator who can support the mission of the school and work well with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Specific characteristics, in addition to those mentioned above, include strong written and verbal communication skills, solid classroom management skills, and the ability to effectively manage the organizational requirements of the position.

Responsibilities:

• Planning and teaching visual arts courses in grades four through seven and in Fenn’s Upper School (grades eight and nine)
   
• Collaborating with colleagues in the Arts Department, including assisting with Fenn’s Kane Art Gallery
   
• As an advisor, supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of advisees in partnership with parents and Division Heads
   
• Completing regular formal reporting of student performance
   
• Keeping the Department Chair and Division Heads informed about student progress

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience teaching students in grades four through nine
   
• Proficiency and passion for work in multiple areas of the visual arts (ceramics, painting, and drawing)
   
• Bachelor's degree required; additional training or experience preferred
   
• A love for working with adolescent boys
   
• Proficiency with technology
