Please help us meet our goal of collecting 10,000 canned and packaged food items by Thanksgiving, only a few weeks away. Fenn has launched its annual Canned Food Drive, directed by the Student Senate to help stock the shelves at Concord Open Table Pantry. The success of the drive depends not only on students, faculty, and staff members bringing in food items, but also on students delivering them to the Pantry and stacking them on the shelves each week, a project overseen by faculty member and Community Service Coordinator Michele Heaton. Boys also organize collections outside area supermarkets on the weekends.
Boxes for canned items have been set up on the Meeting Hall porch opposite the dining hall, and packaged and boxed food can be left in the Meeting Hall lobby. Judy Terry, manager of the Pantry, visited Fenn recently to talk about how important the school's drive is to the organization, which provides food for more than 300 area residents, a number that has been increasing in recent years.
The Pantry can use cooking oil; coffee; jelly; peanut butter; canned fruit and vegetables; canned beans; pasta and pasta sauce; cereal; rice; canned soup, chili, stew, pasta, and tuna; condiments such as ketchup, mustard, and relish; and snacks for schoolchildren.
"Thank goodness for Fenn School," Ms. Terry declared, adding that Fenn brings in the most items of any organization in town.
