On a warm and sunny day in Boston, twenty-nine Fenn boys accompanied by faculty and staff members Pauline MacLellan, Ellen Campbell, Michelle Heaton, Harris Rosenheim, and Kofi Obeng, and three Fenn parents participated in the Walk for Hunger on May 3, most of them completing all twenty miles of the challenge. It was the largest Fenn team ever, according to Pauline, and though they have not finished tabulating donations, it appears that the Fenn walkers raised more than $5900, which is “the best we’ve ever done!” she said.
The boys, said Pauline, “showed true kindness” to their peers as they struggled with fatigue and blisters, “and a few hardy sixth graders made the sprint at the end to run the last mile to the finish line."
"Lots of fried dough, soft-serve ice cream, sausage hoagies, and apples helped to power the walkers,” she noted, adding that “We needed lots of sunscreen and water!”
