Dear Fenn Community,
We are saddened to share that after a heroic and courageous ten-and-a-half-year battle with breast cancer, Lorraine Garnett Ward passed away early this morning, March 9, 2017, at the age of 67, surrounded by her devoted family. Our lives are more fulfilled for having known Lorraine, a loving and dedicated educator, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter, friend, and colleague.
Her love for education and for the boys of Fenn transcended every encounter one had with Lorraine, and so during this difficult time for the Ward Family and the Fenn community, we wish to share with friends the words that she once wrote when she reflected upon her work with boys:
"Let's let our Fenn boys be young and unencumbered for as long as we can, to promise them that no matter where they land academically, socially, artistically, or on the playing field, they are loved and cherished beyond words, that this is the time in their lives to love and enjoy themselves and their friends fully, to feel each day to be one worth living no matter what the challenges or disappointments, to burden them less with our own need for a certain kind of success for them. They will not disappoint us in the long run, I can assure you. And what you get in return is more than you could ever hope for."
Please join the Ward family and friends for a Celebration for the Life of Lorraine at Fenn on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Ward Hall. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Headmaster's home.
With deep sadness,
Associate Head of School
Lorraine Garnett Ward 1949-2017
