Health & Wellness

The Fenn Health Office team partners closely with school departments and colleagues across campus to ensure an integrated system of student support.

Our licensed health professionals work together as a team to ensure the safety and health of all students and to provide a safe and friendly environment in The Health Office. Individualized health and wellness support is provided to students as they navigate their busy school days at Fenn, and mental health needs are coordinated in close partnership with Fenn's Consulting Clinical Psychologist.

The Health Office provides assessment and treatment to students who become ill or injured during the school day, including first aid and minor illness care. Students who feel unwell before the school day are asked to remain at home until they have a significant improvement in symptoms or are cleared by Health Office or other state health protocol.

The Health Office also partners with parents, students, faculty, and staff to ensure that any necessary care plans and medication requirements for students with life-threatening allergies, asthma, diabetes, etc. are monitored and managed during the school day. Students diagnosed with a concussion or sports injury must also provide The Health Office with a care plan and medical clearance prior to a return to athletics.

All students in grades 6-9 and their parents must complete concussion education during their tenure at Fenn and submit related certification to The Health Office. Fenn utilizes the free, online National Federation of High School/CDC Heads-Up training; however, comparable trainings are also accepted.

We believe strongly in a holistic approach to health, collaborating with our colleagues to help all Fenn students find balance among the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual areas of their lives.- Alison Flanagan, RN, Administrator of Health Services

Dr. Geoff Cohane ’93
Consulting Clinical Psychologist

Mental Health Support

Students’ mental health is an equal priority of the School. Dr. Geoff Cohane ’93, the School’s Consulting Clinical Psychologist, is available to meet with students on an as-needed basis for issues pertaining to emotional and behavioral health. In addition, the School may occasionally require that a student see Dr. Cohane.

While our psychologist endeavors to maintain confidentiality, there are times—at his discretion—when he will share information about a student with teachers and/or advisors consistent with Fenn’s Confidentiality Policy. He will also be in contact with parents or guardians about sessions.

Should the School determine that it is in the best interest of a student to obtain services of a psychologist or other mental health professional not employed by Fenn, Dr. Cohane will often take the lead in the referral process.
