Bertos '19 Scores Game-Winning Goal in NCAA Soccer Championship Game

On Monday, December 15, the University of Washington Men's Soccer team competed against North Carolina State in the NCAA Men's D1 National Championship Game in Cary, N.C. In a back and forth game, it was Fenn alumnus Harrison Bertos '19 who scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help Washington claim their first national championship in program history, prevailing 3-2.

Bertos and the Huskies capped off an incredible run in the NCAA College Cup playoffs, with wins over Oregon State, #5 SMU, #12 Stanford, #4 Maryland, #16 Furman, and #15 North Carolina State.

Washington Head Coach Jamie Clark said it perfectly: "We live by the Bertos. We die by the Bertos."

In his junior season for the University of Washington, the Bedford, MA native started in all 23 games on the defensive line, playing the full 90 minutes in 17 of those games. He was named as an All-Big Ten First Team selection and selected as a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American. Following the national title game, Bertos was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Best XI First Team.

Former Fenn Athletic Director and Varsity Soccer Coach Bob Starensier watched the game from start to finish. "I'm so incredibly happy for Harry. I had the privilege of coaching him for three seasons at Fenn. He was so tenacious and talented. I couldn't be more proud of him."
