Fenn Announces After School Enrichment Classes for Fall 2024

Fenn Announces After School Enrichment Classes for Fall 2024

The Fenn team is thrilled to introduce a diverse selection of After School Enrichment Classes available to interested Lower and Middle School students in grades 4-7 for the fall 2024 semester. The unique classes are separate from the Fenn curriculum and offered outside the school day, and registration is first come-first served with payment due when registering. Families who receive financial aid benefit from the same percentage discount on classes as is applied to their Fenn tuition. All are welcome and encouraged to take advantage of all offerings of interest to enrich the school day!

Fall 2024 classes include:

  • CHESS for Grades 4+5+6+7. Chess students of all levels are welcome to join this hour of instruction, game play, and fun in a low-pressure environment with plenty of individual attention for each student. The 8-week program is led by Vadim Martirosov, the Boston area's premiere youth chess coach and a highly experienced Chess Master from the former USSR. Many of Vadim's students have won tournaments in their age groups locally and throughout New England. Before immigrating to the U.S., Vadim studied chess under the supervision of Oleg Privorotsky (G. Kasparov's first coach).

  • CHALLENGE COURSE WEEKLY CLIMB for Grades 6+7. Experienced climber and outdoor educator Will Blumenthal will guide students in exploring the elements of the Fenn high ropes course across this 6-week program. Students will learn how to belay, communicate with a crew on the ground, navigate different elements in the air, and work as a focused team to make each individual successful. As a program of “challenge by choice,” each participant can stretch their own comfort level from their own baseline and grow at their own pace!

  • DODGEBALL VARIATIONS for Grades 4+5. So much dodgeball, so many fun ways to play! From Gaga ball to Dr. Dodgeball to Poison Ball to Protect the Pin, each of the seven weeks of this program will provide great opportunities for active play with school friends on campus.

  • LEGO ROBOTICS for Grades 4+5. Faculty Associate Will Blumenthal will lead sessions of engineering, coding, and fun across this 8-week EV3 Lego Robotics program. Team challenges and Robo-Battles will provide a playful and fun environment for students to learn and create.

The following “Mid-Week Minis” are also offered to grade-appropriate students:

  • Speed-round D+D for Grades 6+7. Faculty member Mr. Laird will spearhead a full mini-campaign of chaos, curve balls, and thinking on your feet to problem solve in real time.

  • SLIME Creations for Grades 4+5. Students will be free to create ever-popular slimy creations that parents don’t want in their homes (but are fun to make with friends after school!).

  • Video Production (parody commercials edition). Students will build storyboards, produce scripts, and perform and create their own hilarious parody ads for everyday items and services. Creativity and teamwork are required for this awesome two-week pop-up!

  • “POP!” Science for Grades 4+5. This pop-up lives up to the genre by exploring things that pop and fizz, burst and explode in this science-based session of chemical reactions led by Fenn science teacher Morgan Laird.

  • Martial Arts Mashup for Grades 6+7. Students are invited to enjoy this low-pressure opportunity to learn cool moves and games and activities that test coordination, strength, and focus.
