Fall Sports Recap 2025

VARSITY FOOTBALL

The Fenn Varsity Football team put together a memorable season defined by resilience, teamwork, and steady growth from week to week. They opened the year under the bright Friday-night lights against Fay, setting the tone with a 60-yard touchdown run by eighth grader Teddy Sheehan. Behind strong linebacker play from ninth grader Thomas Lichoulas and poised quarterbacking from eighth grader Adam Barger, Fenn found its rhythm early and never looked back, securing a 28–14 victory. That early success showcased the group’s confidence, camaraderie, and ability to rise to big moments together.

Momentum continued in a dominant win over Fessenden, highlighted by another explosive start from Sheehan and a defensive front—anchored by Asher Brown, Levi Jacobs, and Isaiah Engermann—that controlled the game from the opening whistle. The team’s depth shined again in the rematch with Fay, where contributions came from all corners: Sheehan’s consistent ground attack, a kick-return touchdown from eighth grader Ashden Duverne, and a strong two-way performance from Louie Slotnick. Barger’s leadership under center and Jacobs closing out the game at quarterback underscored the versatility and trust within the roster.

As the schedule grew tougher, Fenn continued to show heart and dedication. They battled through physical matchups against Nobles and Thayer, holding firm in defensive struggles that demanded discipline from both lines. Even in a fast-paced, back-and-forth game against Dexter, the boys competed with determination, highlighted by strong play from Sheehan and two touchdown passes from Barger.

The season concluded on a high note as Fenn delivered a balanced, complete team performance against Fessenden. Big plays from Sheehan, clutch throws from Barger, and scoring grabs by eighth grader Nate Clark and ninth grader Calvin Lindgren fueled the offense, while defensive stops from Slotnick, Lichoulas, and Jacobs shut down the opposition. It was a fitting end to a season built on teamwork, commitment, and collective growth.

VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY

The Varsity Cross Country team put together an outstanding fall season marked by depth, consistency, and steady improvement. Early meets set the tone, with Fenn runners regularly dominating the top ten and showing impressive growth from race to race. Senior captain Charlie McGowan emerged immediately as a front-runner, frequently finishing first, while Peter Eriksen, Wyatt Reynolds, Ben Soliman, and others consistently placed near the top. A major storyline throughout the season was the rapid development of younger and newer varsity runners, especially seventh grader Alex Kendall, who impressed with top-ten finishes and significant time drops in his first varsity competitions.

As the season progressed, the team proved its toughness across a wide range of challenging conditions and courses. They raced in extreme heat, on muddy and rain-soaked trails, through wooded courses filled with roots, and on long, hilly layouts against deep and talented teams. Despite often being outnumbered, Fenn repeatedly finished near the top, earning several second-place finishes and multiple team wins. Individual highlights included course records, dramatic late-race surges, and countless personal records, with runners such as eighth graders Forrest Towl, Nathan Qu, Ben Amarillo, Simon Kolodziej, Wilder Wyman-Jones, and many others making major strides throughout the fall.

The team capped off the season with some of its strongest performances. A dominant win against Lexington Christian Academy saw nearly every runner set a personal record, and the squad followed that up with a fourth-place finish out of fifteen teams at the Roxbury Latin Invitational, where Charlie McGowan won the race for the second straight year. The season concluded on a high note at a home meet, highlighted by the inclusion of the middle school team, strong team depth, and a celebratory atmosphere. Overall, the fall season showcased not only top-level results, but also resilience, teamwork, and remarkable improvement across the entire varsity roster.

VARSITY SOCCER

Starting the year with a core group of returning players at each level of the field set the tone for the Varsity Soccer team’s 2025 season. Early matches showed the team’s attacking potential, with goals coming from a balanced group that included seniors Peter Mokoro, Jay Freda, Zandy Sureau, and seventh grader Theo Hirst. While consistency was still developing, the boys frequently responded well after slow starts, finding better rhythm in second halves and pushing opponents with sustained pressure. Several matchups featured strong energy and competitive stretches, including tightly contested road games that tested the team’s composure.

Goaltending was a major strength throughout the season and often kept Fenn competitive in the most difficult moments. Eighth grade keeper Will Galati anchored the back line with poise, recording multiple standout performances, including two shutouts and several games with crucial saves that kept matches scoreless or within reach. This included a standout performance on the road in the rain against Nobles. Behind him, defenders such as eighth grader Preston Simon and seventh grader Walker Spring worked tirelessly, frequently limiting opponents’ chances even when the team struggled to maintain possession or energy.

Leadership from the seniors and impressive contributions from seventh graders stood out as a defining theme of the season. Seniors like Mokoro, Freda, Sureau, Tye Reesey, and George Triant led by example, providing goals, assists, and steady leadership in biggest matchups. At the same time, younger players—including Spring, Theo Hirst, and Jack Mulvaney—made meaningful impacts on both sides of the ball, showing grit and fearlessness. The season concluded with some of the team’s most complete performances, winning three of their last four games. The varsity program certainly has plenty of momentum and optimism moving into next season.

JV SOCCER

The Fenn JV Soccer team used the fall season as a valuable developmental opportunity, competing regularly against older and more experienced varsity-level opponents. While results were often shaped by late goals or strong opponents, the group consistently demonstrated resilience, organization, and competitive spirit. Across matches against Sparhawk, Fay, Shore Country Day, Dexter, Belmont Day, and Worcester Academy, the blue and gold showed their ability to defend collectively, adjust tactically, and sustain effort over full matches—important markers of growth for a young squad navigating a demanding schedule.

A consistent strength for Fenn throughout the season was outstanding play in goal. Seventh grader Sam Lavoie delivered multiple high-impact performances, including multiple penalty kick saves, breakaway denials, and extended stretches of composed shot-stopping that kept Fenn competitive in tight contests. Fellow seventh grader Aaron Kang also rose to the occasion when called upon, making a number of reflex saves from close range, commanding his box with confidence while also playing stout defense on his opponents’ top offensive threat. Together, the pair provided stability and leadership from the back, giving the team a chance to compete in every match.

Perhaps the most encouraging takeaway from the fall was the emergence of a strong group of upcoming seventh graders who look poised to contribute at the varsity level in the coming seasons. Players such as Kang, Lavoie, Emerson Fay, Ollie Needham, and Ryder Reesey consistently rose to the challenge, displaying athleticism, work rate, and growing tactical awareness against bigger opponents. Their performances—on both sides of the ball—highlighted the depth of young talent within the Fenn soccer program and underscored a promising foundation for future varsity success.

THIRDS SOCCER

The fall season for Fenn’s Thirds Soccer team was centered on learning, effort, and steady improvement, especially for a group of boys that included several novice players experiencing their first competitive games. The opening matches presented challenges against more experienced opponents, but the team consistently showed resilience and a willingness to grow. Early highlights included eighth grader Baxter Joyce scoring the team’s first goal of the season and strong leadership from eighth grade captains Burke Stanley and Ian Akehurst-Moore. Even when facing early deficits or playing without substitutes, the boys competed hard and treated each match as an opportunity to improve.

As the season progressed, the team began to come together more cohesively, showing better passing, communication, and defensive organization. Several players enjoyed standout performances, including breakout games from eighth graders Chase Raja and Liam Anderson, while Stanley led with vocal and physical defense. Throughout the season, Leo Adida was a constant presence in goal, delivering one outstanding performance after another. He repeatedly kept Fenn competitive with crucial saves, including a remarkable 14-save effort against Lexington Christian Academy, earning consistent praise as a difference-maker and team anchor.

The season concluded with the team playing its most inspired soccer, highlighted by an emotional, rain-soaked final match that showcased how far the boys had come. Playing with heart, grit, and determination, the team never let up and finished the season on a high note with two goals from Joyce and another from Akehurst-Moore. From first-time players finding their footing to a group that finished united and confident, the Thirds Soccer team’s fall season was a testament to their perseverance and the joy of competing together.
