2025-26 Winter Sports Recap

VARSITY HOCKEY

The Fenn School Varsity Hockey team showed resilience and steady growth throughout the season, taking on a challenging schedule while competing hard in every game. Early wins over Rivers and Austin Prep highlighted the team’s ability to generate offense through strong puck movement and relentless forechecking, and a dominant 7–0 win over St. John’s Prep showcased what the group could accomplish when firing on all cylinders. Even in tough matchups against bigger and deeper teams, Fenn battled with grit, highlighted by competitive games like the back-and-forth 5–5 tie with St. Sebastian’s and a hard-fought showing in the Fay Tournament.

Several players delivered standout performances throughout the season. Eighth grade goalie Finn Rodday anchored the team with numerous clutch performances, often facing high shot totals and keeping Fenn in games with key saves. On offense, Thomas Carroll emerged as a consistent scoring threat, including a hat trick against St. John’s Prep, while JD Souza contributed as both a scorer and playmaker. Strong efforts from Teddy Sheehan, Wyatt Reynolds, Ben Beresford, Trey Dunn, and Jay Freda helped drive the team’s offense and energy in key moments throughout the year.

Under the leadership of Coach LaPlante and Coach Miklusak, the team continued to develop its identity built on hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. The season concluded on a high note with a convincing win over Dexter, a fitting finish for a group that competed with determination all winter and laid a strong foundation for the seasons ahead.

VARSITY BASKETBALL

The Fenn School Varsity Basketball team put together an exciting season highlighted by a fast-paced, high-powered offense and several impressive team performances. Fenn opened the year with strong wins over CCHS and Belmont Hill and consistently showed its scoring ability throughout the season, topping 60 points in multiple games and finishing with an average of about 56 points per game across the schedule. The team also found success in tournament and road environments, including a strong showing in the Biscoe Tournament and convincing wins against Roxbury Latin, BB&N, Rivers, and Xaverian.

Offensively, Fenn relied on balanced scoring and unselfish ball movement. Seventh grader Cassius Fairfax emerged as one of the team’s most dynamic scorers, delivering multiple big performances including a season-high 31 points against BB&N and several other 20-point games. Eighth grade co-captain CJ Marrero was another consistent offensive leader, including a 23-point effort against St. Sebastian’s, while fellow eighth grade co-captain Ashden Duverne provided strong scoring bursts throughout the season and frequently attacked the basket to create opportunities for the offense.

Fenn’s success was also fueled by the contributions of many teammates who helped keep the offense flowing. Eighth grade co-captain Amali Freeman played a key role as a facilitator and playmaker, while eighth graders Liam Anderson, Will Bonnes, Peter Eriksen, and others added important scoring and energy off the bench. With balanced production, strong teamwork, and the ability to put points on the board in bunches, Fenn built an entertaining and competitive season that showcased both the team’s offensive firepower and its depth.

VARSITY WRESTLING

The Fenn School Varsity Wrestling team put together an impressive season defined by growth and a strong blend of new talent and experienced leadership. With many newcomers stepping onto the mat for the first time, the team showed steady improvement throughout the winter, gaining confidence and sharpening their skills with each match. The seasoned wrestlers helped set the tone, guiding the group with their work ethic and competitiveness, which created a culture of toughness and support across the lineup.

By the end of the season, that development was on full display at the New England Junior Prep School Wrestling Tournament at Belmont Hill. Fenn delivered an outstanding performance, highlighted by ninth grade captain Tye Reesey, who captured 1st place and earned Outstanding Wrestler of the Season honors. Strong finishes from seventh grader Charlie Flashner (2nd place) and ninth grader Charlie McGowan (3rd place) added to the team’s success, while eighth graders Asher Brown, Tommy Belin, Shep Leonard, along with sixth grader Patrick Collins, each battled their way to 4th-place finishes in their respective weight classes.

With a deep group of returning wrestlers and valuable experience gained across the roster, Fenn Wrestling is well-positioned to build on this success in the seasons ahead.

JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL

The Fenn JV Basketball team put together one of the most complete seasons the program has seen in recent years, finishing with an outstanding 12–2 record. From the opening game, the group showed strong chemistry and a commitment to team basketball, consistently moving the ball and getting everyone involved offensively. Their ability to pressure opponents defensively and quickly convert turnovers into transition baskets helped fuel a high-powered offense that produced several impressive scoring performances, including 60+ point outings against Austin Prep, BB&N, and Fessenden.

A defining strength of the team was its balance and unselfish play. In multiple games, nearly the entire roster contributed in the scoring column, reflecting the group’s excellent ball movement and willingness to make the extra pass. The team’s defensive intensity also set the tone, with aggressive guards creating steals and easy fast-break opportunities while the frontcourt controlled the boards and protected the paint. This combination of defensive pressure, offensive flow, and strong teamwork made Fenn a difficult matchup for opponents all season long.

Several players delivered standout performances throughout the year. Seventh grader Ethan Vargas was a consistent leader on both ends of the floor, setting the tone defensively and producing big scoring games, including a 17-point effort against a strong Pike School team. Seventh grader Owen Gray was a reliable presence inside, finishing around the basket and controlling the boards. Eighth graders Forrest Towl, Louie Slotnick, and Felix Shutzer added scoring punch and playmaking from the perimeter. Ninth grade co-captain Peter Mokoro could be counted on for making the right play at the right time, while others provided important contributions that highlighted the team’s depth.

With strong chemistry, balanced scoring, and relentless defensive energy, this JV squad established itself as one of the most well-rounded Fenn teams in recent memory.

JUNIOR VARSITY HOCKEY

The Fenn JV Hockey team showed tremendous growth and determination throughout the season. Facing several older and more experienced teams early on, the group continued to compete hard and improve each time they stepped on the ice. As the season progressed, their teamwork, confidence, and understanding of the game steadily developed.

That improvement was evident in the team’s offensive production and overall play, highlighted by an exciting 9–6 victory over Shady Hill on the road and another 9-6 win over Carroll School to close out the season in front of a fantastic Fenn cheering section. Contributions came from across the roster, with strong efforts in goal, steady defensive play, and balanced scoring–helping the team finish the year on a high note.

Most importantly, the season reflected the players’ commitment to getting better and supporting one another as teammates. A big thank you goes to Coaches Hackett, Wade, and Low for their guidance, encouragement, and dedication to helping the team grow throughout the season.

THIRDS BASKETBALL

The Fenn School Thirds Basketball program had a strong and rewarding season, highlighted by the opportunity for all players to compete, improve, and experience the game in a true team setting. With two squads—Thirds Blue and Thirds Gold—students were able to develop their skills while learning the value of teamwork, communication, and game play. Thirds Blue competed hard throughout the season, finishing 3-4 with several close contests, while Thirds Gold put together an impressive undefeated 7-0 record built on consistent effort and unselfish play.

Leadership from captains Leo Schubert and Preston Simon on Thirds Blue, along with Alex Walker and Ben Hart Nibbrig on Thirds Gold, helped set the tone for both teams, emphasizing effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The season culminated in the Thirds Classic on February 26. This annual season-ending matchup between the two teams served as a competitive opportunity to go up against their peers. In a back and forth, fast paced-game, it was Gold that secured a narrow 26–24 victory in front of a spirited Lower School student section. More importantly, the game served as a celebration of the players’ growth and the positive, team-first experience that defined the season.
