Transportation

We encourage all eligible students to register for the Transportation Program, and we offer an opportunity to do so in the spring before the school year that transportation is needed. If/as needs arise during the school year, families may also inquire about any available spaces on existing transportation routes. 

We do not use bus monitors, and they are generally not needed. Adding bus monitors would also considerably raise the cost of the service to each family. If a driver has difficulty with a student, s/he has been directed to inform the school’s administration, who will follow up with the student and inform the parents.

In making a choice about appropriate transportation for a child, it is important to consider whether a child will be comfortable riding on a bus without adult supervision and whether he will be able to conduct himself in a manner that it is consistent with Fenn community expectations. 

Any problem on a bus should be reported by a student or his parent to the appropriate Fenn Division Head. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with Fenn community expectations. Riding the bus is a privilege, and students who do not meet community expectations will not be permitted to ride the bus at the discretion of the Division Heads.

Yes. We group students by age on each bus, with the youngest students closest to the driver.

While bus drivers may change from year to year, all drivers must possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Special School Bus Certification. The School Bus Certification consists of passing a written exam specific to the operation of a school bus, 20 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a certified trainer, and passing a school bus driving test administered by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Background checks are also completed on all drivers.
